I just watched Vogue Evolution compete on MTV’s ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’. I was inspired by the fact that the crew challenged some long held stereotypes about what it means to be a hip-hop dancer. The crew represented by being the first openly gay group to perform on the show. Voguing has been forced underground (and into the closet) since Madonna celebrated it in the late 80s.
But is America ready for a vogue revolution?
In addition to having one transgender member, the crew proved that you don’t have to be skinny to be a dancer. Just like the mic, you can rock the stage at any size.

-Transgendered- is not a word. Transgender is an adjective and cannot have a past tense. For example you wouldnt say -a gayed person-.
I love the show and Vogue rocked the Beyonce challenge!
It’s pretty revolutionary. Isn’t it? First that b-girls and boys are finally getting exposure and credit for their athleticism and creativity and also for the true diversity of styles–and people–celebrated on the shows…
Completely forgot to add my two sense about my big girl sistas on this seasons ABDC. 3 words: You.Go.Girls.
You may notice that Danyelle Jones, the groups outspoken and un-official leader of the group, looks very familiar-she was one of the top 4 dancers in season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance.
Its about friggin time! Saw them on the first episode of this seasons ABDC and thought they were great. I am loving their openess about the trials and tribulations they have gone through finding a voice in the mainstream dance community even though the dance industry owes much of its commercial comeback to gay dancers. Judge the dancing people, not the people dancing.
Go Vogue Evolution!
